A Wedding Rooted in Community and Local Food

cityparkfarmersmarket.com

Dear friend,

Last Sunday, I had the honor of attending the wedding of a couple I deeply respect and admire. Over the past five years, they've been devoted market regulars, building meaningful relationships with farmers and food producers week after week. So when it came time to celebrate their marriage, it felt only natural and incredibly exciting for them to craft an entire wedding menu sourced from the market. The result was nothing short of magical.

As we arrived at our tables for reception, the first thing I noticed was a beautiful loaf of bread from our friends at Pink Cloud, lightly covered with linen and paired with Five Freedoms Dairy butter still in its original container from the market. It was simple. It was elegant.  And it was the perfect introduction to the market-and-farm-focused dinner that followed.

The first course arrived, and it was brilliant… sliced Croft Family Farm tomatoes served alongside a small dish of flaky salt for sprinkling. When I say the entire table food-moaned after that first bite, I'm not exaggerating. Conversations paused as everyone rallied around the straightforward, farm-fresh simplicity of those flavorful local tomatoes. Then just after the tomatoes (which they lovingly called the “palate cleanser”), came the full spread of market goods -  a grilled vegetable medley from Croft and Monroe Farms showcasing the best of the season, decadent layered potatoes from Monroe Organic Farms, and an absolutely stunning plate of flank steak from Buckner Family Ranch. As if all this food wasn't enough - there was fresh, herb-forward salad topped with fruit from Ela Family Farms.

This entire meal was brought together by farmers we all know, love, and cherish and that gave the dinner an extraordinary depth of meaning. It infused every conversation around the table, as the joy of eating with intention radiated throughout the wedding reception. The bride and groom were unabashed in sharing their gratitude for their local farms and market and I found myself beaming with pride knowing that this food, and these farmers, were receiving the recognition they so deeply deserve. What a meal to remember.

With joy,
Margo
